Discernment
Discernment is the key to practice.
In my very first yoga class the teacher told me to sit comfortably on the floor.
There was no way to sit comfortably on the floor so I sat uncomfortably on the floor.
Yoga seemed so vast, so impossible, so OUT OF REACH.
I learned to measure progress in years and not in a single class.
I kept what was useful.
And discarded what was not.
Still doing that.
What is an Imah?
Imah means mother in Hebrew.
In the beginning of the school year, on the first day of soccer practice, or at a kid's birthday party where I haven't met the other parents yet, I explain that my little one calls me Imah (pronounced EE-MaH) which means mother in Hebrew.
She calls my wife Mama and me Imah.
She hasn't asked me yet why we don't have a dad in our house but she often asks me why we don't have a bunny.
